The Centre make public a paper on legitimation strategies
This research project developed current understanding of the impact of different legitimation strategies for new ventures. New ventures often suffer from a liability of newness. Gaining trust from resource-givers (eg: customers, investors, creditors) becomes the challenge in this case. A survey of 116 firms asked how easy or difficult it had been to acquire resources. It compared this against the strategies they deployed for achieving legitimacy in the eyes of resource givers. For new ventures building legitimacy in the early years, the findings may assist them in their business planning.
