Sussex Innovation Presents: International Women's Day
This International Women's Day we will be celebrating with a number of events.
In the Falmer building we will be hosting a lunch-time special, including:
- An 'Inspirational Women' board where tenants can write about their favourite inspirational woman (including women from the centre!)
- Charity donation box for feminine hygiene products
- Screening of female-led TED talks
- Recommended reading/watch list of books/movies/series by female authors/actors/producers (send in your suggestions!)
- Networking with other Sussex Innovation members
We are also promoting the following events:
Influential University of Sussex alumnae come back to campus for a panel debate, hosted by the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor for Equality and Diversity Professor Claire Annesley. Speakers include Laura McDermott, Creative Director at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Dr Maria Balshaw (the first female director in Tate’s 120-year history), Catherine Mayer (author and co-founder of The Women’s Equality Party), Dr Philippa Gregory (novelist, broadcaster and philanthropist) and Dr Helen Pankhurst (author, activist, great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst & granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, and ambassador for CARE International).
Join us for a high-impact event on how to change perceptions and inspire the growth of women in innovation. This event will include networking, talks from influential women, debate panels, refreshments, etc.
This event will showcase five amazing speakers, including Emily Yates, writer and activist involved in the 'Southern Fail' campaign and co-founder of the Association of British Commuters; Dr Aristea Fotopoulou, Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication on data and its impact on women; Tasha Mansley, expert on issues with young people on social, such as self-esteem, sexting and cyber-bullying; Bridie By The Sea, local award winning 'mum blogger' Bridget McGrath; and Sunetta Kiarie of The Goodall Foundation, who manages new youth and community hub The Barge in Brighton Marina.
To celebrate International Women's Day and their 1st anniversary, One Girl Band will be hosting an event at their headquarters, complete with pizza, prosecco, and talks from inspirational women. All profits from ticket sales will go to Rise - helping women, children, young people and the LGB&T* community affected by domestic abuse.
Come and celebrate International Women’s Day with a breakfast hailing the most important ladies in our members’ lives. We’re asking attendees to bring a picture of the woman that’s inspired them most; it might be your mum, your teacher, your favourite author, a boss, a politician, a celebrity… Come along, get fed, and discuss why these women are so great.
Brighton Digital Women and Pure360 have teamed up to bring an inclusive International Women’s Day celebration to Brighton and Hove. You're invited to join us at PLATF9RM on Floor 5 for glasses of prosecco. The event is gender inclusive, so people from all genders and all business sectors are welcome.
We are delighted to announce that The Worshipful the Mayor of Croydon Councillor Toni Letts OBE, will be joining us during the lunch and will also highlight the achievements Female Founders are making in Business. Other speakers at this event will include Asma Khan (founder of the successful restaurant Darjeeling), Vicky Stevens (Croydon's local business growth enabler for NatWest Business Banking) and Vivian Slattery (the Managing Director for Monetary Solutions).
Lives Not Knives would like to invite you to an evening of celebration of women. Held at the LNK unit in Centrale Shopping Centre in Croydon Town Centre, this event will include guest speakers, entertainment, sparkling wine & cakes and the chance to network with and meet other inspirational women.
Please note that not all of these events will be held at Sussex Innovation Falmer or Sussex Innovation Croydon, so check the venue in advance. We look forward to seeing you!
