SportsAid Week at Sussex Innovation 2019
SportsAid Week 2019
SportsAid Week focusses on raising money to support athletes from the ages 12 – 18 in their journey in becoming the next generation of Team GB and ParalympicsGB at future Olympic and Paralympic Games.
And throughout September, Sussex Innovation is getting involved in raising donations for SportsAid Week for its second consecutive year!
The #MyMiles Challenge
For its third year running, the #MyMiles Challenges pays tribute to the commitment and dedication of talented young athletes as they pursue their sporting ambitions. The challenges encourage participants to support and keep athletes’ company in physical activity. As well as raising money, the challenge is a fun and competitive way to get people on their feet and be more active.
Sussex Innovation members and staff will choose from three possible #MyMiles challenges:
Choose your own #MyMiles target:
Those who choose this challenge will have the whole of September to set their target and achieve it.
Do the #MyMiles Marathon
Participants of this challenge will have to complete 26.2 miles in their way from the beginning and end of September.
Go extreme in the #MyMiles40
This challenge raises the bar by putting yourself in the shoes of a young SportsAid athlete by completing 40 miles in one week!
In each of these challenges’ participants will have the freedom to choose how to perform them - it’s not just limited to running! Members can dance, swim, cycle or play team sports their way into the challenge. SportsAid suggests a great tip on how to record your exercise: 20 minutes of exercise totals as 1 mile!
Partnered with one of our members RaceNation, Sussex Innovation members and staff can sign up on their online platform to join in on the #MyMiles challenge and join the Sussex Innovation group. On Thursday 26th September the total number of miles as a team will be tallied up. You can now sign up and join the Sussex Innovation group here.
Sussex Innovation SportsAid Week Quiz
On September 20th, the Friday before SportsAid Week, we will be hosting a sports quiz evening with our members and staff to raise money for SportsAid. Members and staff will compete in teams at a chance to win a big prize!
Sussex Innovation Founders Walk and Talk
Our Interim Chief Executive, Nigel Lambe and Ian Braid, Founder of DOCIAsport will be going for a lunchtime walk in Stanmer Park on Monday September 23rd. Alongside an opportunity to talk shop with fellow founders and explore the human challenges of leadership, you’ll also be earning some extra miles for your company’s #MyMiles Challenge team!
Sussex Innovation SportsAid Week Lunch
After everyone’s efforts in the Sports Aid Week, Sussex Innovation will be celebrating on Friday September 27th with a SportsAid Week Lunch! Sussex Innovation will be hosting the lunch for members and staff to celebrate and raise money for SportsAid Week. The lunch will have food, drinks, fun activities and at the end, Sussex Innovation will announce the 2019 #MyMiles Challenge winners!
Before the lunch, Ian Braid, DOCIAsport founder and SportsAid trustee and Tim Lawler, the CEO of SportsAid will be cycling over 40 miles! Together, they will be cycling from our Croydon Centre to our Falmer Centre on the Friday morning to arrive in Falmer in time for the lunch!
Our fundraising efforts could be supporting future SportAid athletes and could become one of the prodigies such as Mo Farah, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Sir Steve Redgrave. So join in and support young SportsAid athletes by getting active and donating here.
