Q. Who can join Sussex Innovation?

We’re looking for anyone with an innovative idea, and the potential and ambition to grow. Our members will often fall under one of the following categories:

  • Ambitious entrepreneurs from any industry
  • Disruptive start-ups
  • Digital agencies developing websites, applications or software
  • Strategic, policy, technical or management consultancies
  • Prototype or low volume manufacturing
  • Scientific products or market testing
  • Other innovative activities which further the aims of Sussex Innovation and the 'coast to capital' region
  • Academic spin-outs or services linked to the University of Sussex.

Q. Is there a waiting list for membership?

We are always looking for new businesses that will be a good fit for our community, and select all potential members based on an initial conversation and interview with our Director. Our Network and Virtual memberships involve a short application process, and if we believe that your business would benefit from full Tenant membership, we will strive to accommodate your needs as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Q. Do I have to pay business rates in addition to the rent?

No, business rates are included in addition to heating, light and power.

Q. Is car parking available?

Falmer: Free parking is available on a limited basis. A car parking space is allocated on the basis of one for every 200 square feet of office space taken. Falmer rail station is close to the campus and buses travel to the campus from both Brighton and Lewes.

Croydon: There is limited tenant parking available on-site, including loading and unloading. The centre is less than a minute's walk from East Croydon rail station and tram links.

Q. Are restaurant facilities available?

Falmer: The Centre has its own cafe - Cafe Direct - which is open each working day between the hours of 8.30 am and 4.00 pm serving both hot and cold meals.

Croydon: One Croydon features a small cafe on the ground floor, serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. The kitchen areas on both floors of Sussex Innovation - Croydon stock healthy snacks for purchase, and members are welcome to use the coffee machines free of charge.

Q. What are the lease arrangements and how long is the minimum period for taking space?

The legal arrangements are covered by a licence for an initial period of three years with a review at that time. Three months' standard notice or 1-3 months' minimum notice can be given by either party. There is no minimum period for tenancy as such, with the shortest length of time that any company has been based with us in the last twenty years being three months.

Q. Do I need to be a member in order to hire meeting rooms or conference facilities?
