Grapheel is a charitable organisation which supports science and technology education for the visually impaired.
The aim of the organisation is to bring easy access of visual STEM (Sceince, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) data to blind and visually impaired (BVI) students. The online service IRIS joins sighted volunteers with BVI users who can upload an image and have it transcribed into words. The team also reach out to teachers, parents and rehabilitation workers providing them with advice and support on how to deliver science education to disabled students. In addition, Grapheel are developing an electronic, refreshable Tactile Graphics Display (TGD) model. This device will allow touch interaction with visual data using taxels or tactile pixels.
