University community donates over 350 bags to Age UK

This holiday season, the University of Sussex brought together the members of our community to campaign for an incredibly important charity – Age UK.

The Sussex community came together to support Age UK by donating over 350 bags across the campus. These bags were full of goodies, treats and Christmassy delights for the older members of our community who are sadly alone over the festive period. Through these goodie bags, the campaign sought to bring momentary happiness and Christmas spirit to those who are unfortunately alone at Christmas. Here at Sussex Innovation we were keen to support this meaningful cause.

Our generous team and members in Falmer and Croydon supplied 55 goodie bags for this heart-warming campaign, contributing a wide assortment of items including sweet treats, beauty products and small games such as puzzle books. We also hand-wrote Christmas cards for the recipients, and children of the members of our community got involved by drawing pictures for recipients, which we all know brings a smile to anyone's face. We want to thank all the people in our community for coming together to support Age UK, and further thank the University for bringing this campaign to light.

Age UK recently identified many ‘loneliness hotspots’ in Brighton and Hove, adding that our city is in the top 20% for loneliness. Over 44,000 people in Brighton and Hove are living alone, our Sussex community wanted to raise awareness to the isolated population in our city.

We are very proud and touched to be a part of this community, and again we want to thank the generosity of our members. The Sussex community can say with confidence that we have helped bring a smile to those in our community who need it the most in the holiday season.
